Acne Basics

Acne Basics

Did you know that acne is the most common skin disorder? Did you also know that acne effects over 10% of all Americans between the ages of 22-45? Did you also know that over 85% of the population in the United States between the ages of 12-25 will have acne at some time? Acne is not something to be embarrassed about. It effects all at some point in their life.

Acne, even though common, if ignored can lead to larger problems. The affected areas can create scars and pockmarks. Once there it is permanent. It is important to remember not to pop or pick at your acne.
Acne is also known as seborrhea or seborrheic dermatitis. The basic cause of this condition is the contamination of the sebaceous glands that are located under the skin. When these glands become filled with toxic matter containing dirt, dead skin, excess sebum oil, acid waste and bacteria a pimple or zit forms.
Normally these glands produce and release oil that will come up through your pores and onto your skin. This is a natural body reaction to help keep the skin moist and also provides protection to the skin.
However if your pores are blocked, a toxic build up of oil is created. The end result is the formation of a pimple. The more toxic matter that becomes stuck in the pore the larger this pimple becomes. If allowed to become large enough the pore wall can burst under your skin. When this occurs white blood cells come in to collect the collagen around your pores and form what is commonly known as a whitehead.
Acne can be controlled to an extent with different methods. Not all methods will produce the same results for each person. Acne is a complex condition that involves a number of internal organs. As a result no two treatments will produce the same effect for different people.
The basics to helping keep your face and body free from acne are
-Showering after sweating
-Healthy diet
It is important to not become frustrated if one treatment does not work for you. There are many other alternatives out there.
